City of Lacey DUI & Criminal Cases – Location & Prosecution

Thurston County District Court provides courthouse services to the City of Lacey. This includes criminal misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors, infractions, and parking infraction violations of City codes. However, while the cases are heard at the Thurston County District Court, City of Lacey criminal cases are not reviewed by the Thurston District prosecutors.

Contracted Prosecutor

The attorney who prosecutes crime is contracted through a private firm in Lacey. There are several attorneys at the firm who handle various legal needs of the City of Lacey. They are all very experienced attorneys and, in our experience, understand the strengths and weaknesses when analyzing and prioritizing criminal cases.

Experience

From private defense perspective, that is very helpful. When you are dealing with a brand new lawyer who is in charge of lower level crimes, their inexperience can make it very challenging and time consuming. They often do not know which issues are really at issue and how to value the case.

Efficient

So far, the prosecutor (private attorney) who handles City of Lacey cases is very efficient and we rarely have more than two pre-trial hearings. Unless we need our client to get some proactive steps done to resolve the case, we can nearly always reach the prosecutor and get a resolution with 2-3 hearings, including the Arraignment.

Encouraging of Treatment and Therapeutic Court Options

Although Lacey prosecutors may be strict on repeat offenders, for first time DUIs or other first time misdemeanor charges, the prosecutor is very accepting of  treatment and rehabilitation programs. This might include mandatory alcohol treatment, participation in DUI victim impact panels, or evaluation and counseling for alcohol dependency.
