Restitution

Starting Tuesday, February 18, 2025, all restitution orders signed by the Court will require restitution to be paid through the Court. Restitution will no longer be paid from a defendant directly to a restitution recipient.

The process of a defendant paying a restitution recipient directly and then filing proof of payment with the Court has been spotty at best. Understandably, a fair number of defendants fail to file proof of payment with the Court, necessitating additional hearings.

Requiring restitution to be paid through the Court will make it significantly easier to track restitution payment. The Court will now also be able to refer unpaid restitution obligations for collection since there will no longer be a question whether restitution payment was in fact made but no proof was in the court file.
