DUI · CRIMINAL DEFENSE · PERSONAL INJURY
Assault 4 Domestic Violence criminal charges are very complex. They involve family situations because the accused has to live outside of the home while the case is pending. The defendant also has to be very careful not to violate the No Contact Order that is put into place at the time of arrest or at Arraignment. If he or she calls the victim or answers a text message, you can be charged with another very serious crime called violation of a no contact order. Additionally, just the charging of a crime can impact someone's professional license. For example assault and DUI cases can impact physicians, dentists, teachers, counselor and real estate agents when it comes to their professional licenses. This comes up a lot with Bainbridge Island Assault cases and can be a big challenge so we try to resolve these cases quickly.

The cost of a lawyer for a DUI or criminal charge will depend on where you were charged and the seriousness of the criminal charge. Most misdemeanor cases will be under $5000 but felonies will usually be well above $10,000 for a private criminal defense attorney. For Bainbridge Island or Poulsbo, the average cost of an experienced DUI lawyer will be $4000. If you are charged more than $5000 for a first time DUI, you are being charged too much.

The cost of DUI lawyer for a first time DUI should be approximately $4000 in Kitsap County. If it is a more serious misdemeanor like Assault 4 Domestic Violence or a second DUI, it could be closer to $5000 or $6000. If you are quoted $6500 or more for a first time DUI, keep calling around. That is just paying for a large firm's overhead. You can definitely find a lawyer who practices only DUI or criminal defense with 20 years experience for closer to $4000. The best attorneys do not put ads on the radio like DUI AWAY or BEAT DUI because the best DUI defense lawyers don't really advertise. Their cases come from referrals. So do not overpay. You will need that extra money for fines and possible a chemical dependency or drug & alcohol evaluation.

There are significant differences between sealing a criminal record, expunging non-conviction data, and vacating a criminal conviction. They are governed by different rules. Sealing a court record is at the discretion of a judge. Expunging non conviction history is at the discretion of the Washington State Patrol. Some criminal charges, like a DUI, cannot be vacated. It is important to talk to an experienced attorney who handles these types of issues if you need assistance. Many people want to make sure they can pass a criminal background check but don't realize it can take many steps as well as years of waiting to accomplish this task. It is not something most non-lawyers understand how to do.
